Hello Insurance. Goodbye Risk.

About Me

Hello Insurance. Goodbye Risk.

When it comes down to it, all insurance really serves a single purpose. It reduces your risk. Perhaps you cannot afford to risk having to pay $100,000 if someone is badly injured on your property. You'd buy homeowners insurance to protect you from that risk. Maybe you don't want to have to shell out $20,000 for a new car if someone drives into the side of yours in a parking lot. You'd buy comprehensive car insurance to cover that risk. More insurance equals less risk. But how much risk do you need to protect against, and how much insurance is enough? Only you can answer that question, and you should have a better idea of your answer after reading the articles on this website.

3 Types Of Auto Insurance Coverage You Should Not Go Without

When it comes to personal auto insurance, you have a lot of options to choose from. No two policies are identical, as you have the freedom to purchase only the protection types you want. If you are not sure what types to add to your plan, here are three that you should never go without.

Liability Coverage

If you were to buy a minimum-coverage auto policy, it would provide you with liability coverage. Liability coverage is not protection for you. It is protection for others, but it still protects you in a sense. When you have liability coverage and cause an accident, it covers the damages to others. It provides the other party compensation for the costs to their car, and it offers coverage for medical bills, lost wages, and other expenses.

Liability does not directly protect you in terms of offering money for compensation, but it does protect you financially. If you didn't have this coverage and you caused an accident, the victim could sue you personally for the damages. With liability coverage, this will not occur.

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage

The second type of coverage you should never go without is uninsured and underinsured motorists. While this may sound like two different types of protection, insurance companies generally bundle it as one product.

When you have this protection, your policy provides compensation to you if you have damages from an accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver. While you might think that you would never get in a collision with a driver like this, you have a high chance of encountering an accident with a driver who has no insurance or not enough insurance. There are a lot of drivers on the roads that do not have any or enough auto insurance.

Comprehensive Coverage

The other type of insurance product you should consider having is comprehensive. Comprehensive is the coverage that protects you if you encounter a collision with a deer or damage from a storm. If hail destroys the finish on your vehicle, your comprehensive coverage protects you. If someone breaks into your car and damages it, this is the coverage that provides compensation for the damages you encountered from the vandalism.

You can choose from a lot of different coverage types when buying a personal auto insurance policy. To learn more about these options and others or to get a quote, talk to an insurance agent today.
